Ruth Lake Hike

Last Saturday we took Abe on his first camping trip to the High Uintas. We went with our friends Jentry and Ashley. After a LONG night, we decided it might be easier if we get a bigger tent (or a separate tent for ABE!) In the morning we hiked to Ruth Lake. Jentry and Aaron rock climbed while Ashley and I hung with Abe and then we all rode Jentry's body board as a sled down the snowfields. Who knew a body board purchased on the beach in Florida would come in SO handy and FUN in the High Uinta's?!!

The backyard is finally finished...basically

Thank you to everyone who came to the rockin' soddin' party on saturday, your help was extremely appreciated. We finished laying the sod in an hour and a half for 6 pallets thanks to everyone that came and helped. Thanks to Ash and Chris and Emily for watching the kids and cooking food which was very good. Thanks to Nate and Matt and a bunch of our great neighbors for helping put the sod in outside. Here are a few shots of the transformation:

After about 5 months of off and on laboring starting with a retaining wall in January and February a deck and sprinklers in April, the garden and now the sod in June, we finally have a usable backyard. The hard labor is done! Hurray! Who needs manual labor anyway?

Canoes and fishing, fishing and canoes

Sometimes when I think about canoes I think, "Hey, what's the point?" "Why does anybody need a canoe? The only thing they're good for is fishing and who needs fishing anyway?" I guess I shouldn't think about canoes anymore.

Abe had his first canoeing and fishing adventure last weekend up at the lake by the cabin. As you can see he was pretty excited to embark.

However, once the voyage began he became mesmerized by the water and the excitement soon vanished.

He was in his own world and fortunately we were able to rebalance the vessel without catastrophe the one time we accidentally leaned over while rowing and his head came an inch from submersion.
